Police were called to popular dive location, Fish Rock, about 4pm after reports a diver had died.
A police spokeswoman said local detectives and crime scene investigators attended and found the body of a 24-year-old Singapore national.
Detectives interviewed divers at Fish Rock and obtained statements.
“The deceased was involved in a dive at that location and had been brought to the surface by other divers for CPR,” the spokesperson said.
“He was later pronounced deceased by paramedics on the way to Kempsey District Hospital.”
Kempsey Detectives and the Marine Area Command are continuing investigations into the cause of death.
However, the spokeswoman said the death did not appear to be suspicious at this stage.
