Flash sign shows how creek works

26 Jun, 2009 10:15 AM
A NEW sign describing the operation of the Killick Creek eco-system has been installed at Crescent Head.

The sign, next to the footbridge, is part of the Kempsey Shire Council estuary management plan which called for increased public education and awareness of the creek and how it functions.

Ron Kemsley is the senior natural resource officer at the council and was instrumental in the design and installation of the new sign.

“I took a lot of the photographs that are on the sign and was responsible for the design. It is similar to the one at Saltwater Creek in South West Rocks,” Mr Kemsley said.

“It might seem a bit busy at first glance but I wanted something that would make people stop and read at least part of the information.”

The sign also contains aerial photographs of the creek showing how it has evolved over time and information about tides, water quality and the food chain.

The sign is covered with a special graffiti proof coating and is securely anchored in the ground.

It is hoped that another sign will be installed at Korogoro Creek at Hat Head as part of Kempsey council’s implementation of the estuary management plan.
