ROSES will be a precious commodity in the Macleay today.
The Macleay’s menfolk will be digging deep into their pockets to show just how much they love their special someone, and flowers are always among the most popular of gifts for Valentine’s Day.
“It’s a crazy day for us,” the owner of Showcase Florist in Kempsey Leanne Davis said yesterday.
“We start work at 7am and close whenever. The night before, the girls are up way past midnight getting everything organised.
“It’s the biggest day in the florist year.”
The business has been busy taking special orders from clients for the past few weeks, opening extra hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Despite that, plenty of men choose to leave it to the last possible moment to make a purchase.
“Last year we had men lined up from the counter to the front door,” Ms Davis said.
Showcase delivers flowers all over the Macleay and also to Port Macquarie.
Four delivery vehicles will work around the clock today to ensure all orders are met.
Roses, as always, are the most popular gift.
“Flowers are an emotional gift,” Ms Davis said.
“They allow a sentiment to be expressed really well.”
A dozen red roses will set you back about $80.
A half dozen or single roses are also a popular option.
“And we always have lots of orders for chocolate and teddy bears,” Ms Davis said.
Seven staff will work around the clock in store to make sure all orders are met.
Please order early in case the gifts sell out.
