DAVID Faint was sceptical when he received a message on his mobile phone late on Tuesday afternoon informing him he had won $2 million.
Two days later he received a similar message and became even more suspicious.
The message read “Congrat (sic) your mobile number has won $2,000,000USD in the ongoing free lotto 2010. Contact for claims email your name and mobile number to …”
Mr Faint said he became suspicious almost immediately as he had received similar messages via email.
“I haven’t responded. If I do respond what is it going to cost me?” he said.
“Who knows what it is?
Mr Faint is currently on a Telstra Next G plan.
He said it was the first time in two years he had received such a message.
“I took it to the bloke down at the shop in town and he agreed it looked fairly dodgy,” he said.
A spokesperson for Telstra said Mr Faint had taken the right course of action by ignoring the messages.

The internet fraudsters lead users to believe they will receive larger sums of money from overseas persons or companies.
They request money or bank details in return.
Police also warn internet users to be aware of persons selling property and requesting the money be put into overseas bank accounts as they are on extended holidays.
