REMEMBRANCE Day services were held throughout the Macleay on Tuesday.
This year the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marked the 90th anniversary of the armistice which ended the Great War in 1918.
The Kempsey Macleay RSL Sub Branch held a re-dedication of the Frederickton War Memorial, with strong support shown by ex-servicemen and Frederickton Public School students.
Salvation Army Captain Mark Williamson conducted the service.
The memorial was restored thanks to grants from the Coastline Credit Union and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Kempsey Macleay RSL Sub-Branch vice president Mike Dutton said to the healthy crowd:
“Today we give thanks to all those who made the supreme sacrifice and all those who continue to suffer from the ravages of war.
“We think of every man, woman and child who in those crucial years died so that the light of freedom and humanity might continue to shine.”
Around the nation and the world, a minute’s silence was held to remember those who lost their lives in war.
Two minutes silence was held at the East Kempsey Cenotaph, with about 50 people paying their respects.
