LENGTHY delays with the issue of post mortem examination reports from a Sydney morgue have prolonged the case of a Kempsey man charged with murder.
Clenton Biddle, 61, appeared in Port Macquarie Local Court yesterday via video link.
David O’Neil from the Department of Public Prosecutions said the brief of evidence had been served, but the post mortem examination report was outstanding.
“There’s currently a delay of nine to 12 months to obtain that report,” he told the court.
“I relayed that to my superiors and have asked for it to be fast-tracked.”
Biddle is charged with murder and using an offensive weapon in relation to the February 20 death of a woman in Old Station Rd, Kempsey.
He has been remanded in custody since his arrest.
Mr O’Neil said the delays in obtaining post mortem examination reports from the Glebe Morgue were “inordinate”.
“It’s an essential part of the Crown’s case,” he said.
Magistrate Thomas Hodgson ordered the post mortem examination report be fast-tracked.
“It’s just not acceptable when someone is in custody,” he said.
Biddle is to re-appear in Port Macquarie Local Court on January 7 by video link.
