A NINETEEN-year-old man is recovering in Port Macquarie Hospital from emergency surgery to his neck after a mass brawl at South Kempsey at the weekend.
Kempsey Police were called to the intersection of West and Middleton Sts early on Sunday morning after reports of a brawl involving 50 to 60 people.
“It appears a number of parties have converged,” Kempsey Police inspector Paul Fuller said.
“By the time officers arrived most of the fighting had stopped, but police removed some fence palings and broken bottles from the area and the people were moved on.”
An ambulance was called after the 19-year-old man was discovered with the serious wound to his neck.
He was taken to Kempsey Hospital but later transferred for emergency surgery.
Investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile, police have issued numerous infringement notices following a mass brawl on the corner of Middleton and Albert Sts in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Inspector Fuller said it appeared a neighbourhood dispute had spilled over to the streets and a fight involving up to 60 people had broken out.
“It appears some incidents occurred at a party, which then spilled onto the street and a brawl has erupted,” Inspector Fuller said.
