KEMPSEY Riding for the Disabled is in desperate need of community support.
The not-for-profit group is seeking sponsorship to replace ageing horses.
The primary objective of Riding of the Disabled Association is to provide people with a disability the opportunity to ride and enjoy all the activities connected with horse riding.
One business, Fredo Wholesale Meats, will donate all profits made from Hastings Valley Dairy products to the purchase of a new horse.
Owner Ian Rudder said all milk, cheese and yoghurt products sold would raise money for Kempsey Riding for the Disabled.
“Hastings Valley Dairy has sold me the products at a discounted price until we raise enough funds to purchase a horse,” Mr Rudder said.
“The horses are getting a little old now and we would really like a new one.”
The Rudder family supplies a horse to the association.
“What the kids get out of it is phenomenal, you can’t put a price on it,” Mr Rudder said.
Horse riding and horse related activities assist greatly and often dramatically in the development and restoration of personal confidence, self esteem, communication skills, leadership and trust.
The complex movement of the horse helps to improve coordination, balance, muscular development and fitness.
Kempsey Riding for the Disabled coach Chereyll Beard said there were currently 23 registered riders.
“We have students from Melville High School support unit, Frederickton Public School, St Joseph’s Primary School and West Kempsey Public School support unit,” Mrs Beard said.
Kempsey Riding for the Disabled is operational every Tuesday during the school term from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
