Crescent Head Pointers on a high after successful carnival

20 Nov, 2009 09:06 AM
TEAM spirit is still running high after the Crescent Head Pointers Swimming Club held their first NSW qualifying carnival last Saturday, at the Crescent Aquatic Centre with swimmers competing from across the Mid North Coast region.

The first carnival ever held at the Crescent Head facility saw 124 swimmers and their families join the Crescent Head Pointers from Forster, Taree,

Laurieton, Wingham, Port Macquarie, Port Macquarie TSA, Kempsey, Macksville, Bellingen and Sawtell Swimming Clubs.

The Crescent Head Pointers Swimming Club committee said the day was a huge success thanks to the community support, contribution, encouragement and excitement with 54 local businesses and community members getting behind them, their swimmers and those of the Mid North Coast.

The club members came together and put in a huge effort to hold this event where swimmers could qualify for Country Championships and State meets held in Sydney, but also encourage those younger swimmers and have a great family day out at Crescent Head.

High spirits and sportsmanship was shown throughout the day and the club has received such positive feedback from those clubs who attended about the great community pool facilities and awesome ‘vibe’ of the day and has really put Crescent Head on the map!

Crescent Head swimmers Annie Dillion and Heidi Tamblyn qualified for NSW State Championships.

Annie qualified for the 100m and 200m breast-stroke events and Heidi in the 100m backstroke and the 100m and 50m freestyle.

Many other Pointers came home with medals from the day and are so proud of themselves and their club.

Two Crescent Head relay teams won in the Coastline Community Foundation seven years and under 6x25m freestyle relay and also in the Hotondo Homes Kempsey 12 years and under mixed 6x50m freestyle relay.

Crescent Head Pointers Swimming Club’s weekly club night Tuesday from 5.30pm.
