PROFESSIONAL Bull Riders (PBR) Australia reigning champion Pete Farley made the
ride of his life to win round two of the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Held over two weekends (Oct 30 – Nov 1 and Nov 5-8), the 2009 PBR Built Ford
Tough World Finals is being held at the Thomas & Mack Centre on the University of Las Vegas campus.
Having fallen short of the required eight seconds on his first round bull, 20-year-old Pete Farley from Kempsey backed up last Saturday night with the highest score of his PBR career, on the 2008 PBR World Champion Bucking Bull, Bones.
With the pressure upon him to go the journey on this previously un-ridden beast, Farley stepped up in the best possible manner, riding Bones for an incredible 93.25 points – the equal third highest score of the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough Series.
The young Australian added a check for US$25,000 to his bank account and the first World Finals round victory in his career.
“He’s (Bones) a bull where you know you have no room for error at all. He’s hard to ride and that’s why no one wanted to pick him,” Farley said.
“It didn’t make me want to prove anything except to myself that I could ride the best bull in the world. It gives me a lot of confidence especially with the draft because I can pick what I want to pick for tomorrow.”
Splitting second and third place was North Carolina superstar J.B. Mauney
(Mooresville, N.C.)and Ryan McConnel (Colgate, Okla.) who both scored 91.25 points.
Mauney rode 2009 World Champion Bull contender, Troubadour of Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls, while McConnel took on the bull, Unabomber 22 (Eno/Kubinchak Bucking Bulls).
Fourth place went to top Brazilian rider Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) who scored 90.5 points on Boyd/Floyd Bull Company’s bull, Spitfire. Rounding out fifth place was Shane Proctor (Mooresville, N.C.) who rode the bull, King of Hearts, owned by Corey & Horst Rodeo Co. Inc.
Round three of the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals started in Las Vegas on Monday afternoon, Australian time.
Farley has attempted another ride and lasted 7.94 of the required eight seconds. He was desperately unlucky not to get another great score.
At the conclusion of the World Finals, Farley will return home for the Bundaberg Rum PBR National Finals in Tamworth on November 27 and 28.
