ROVERS bowlers Adam Ulrick and Matt Lewis combined to dismiss any hopes SPECC-South West Rocks harboured of scoring a round 13 win on Saturday.
SPECC-South West Rocks had the opportunity to take first inning points after day one of the team’s two-day clash with Rovers at the South West Rocks pitch.
But Ulrick and Lewis took three wickets each and quashed any chance the team had.
However, SPECC-South West Rocks put up a fight until the final ball, which came just 11 runs shy of their target.
At the start of play on day two, SPECC-South West Rocks were 2-67, with Kyle Masters and Mark Smee at the crease.
However, Masters only managed to add two more runs to his total before being caught off the bowling of Lewis.
Smee did not fair much better – adding 10 more runs to his innings before being caught off the bowling of Ulrick.
Mick Fotheringham (48 not out) and Brad Schubert (46) took control at the crease and added some much needed runs to the total.
They had their side in the running and both narrowly missed out on a half century.
Thomas Wright bowl-ed Schubert, one of his two wickets of the match in his 2.4 overs.
SPECC-South West Rocks will face Kempsey Heights this Saturday in a two-day round 14 match.
Both sides will be looking for a win to boost their points in the penultimate round of the season.
