RETRAVISION Rangers returned to their old home ground at Eden St on Sunday to take on Kempsey Saints in the second local derby of the Mid North Coast Premier League.
Rangers have had many successful games at the ground over the years and Saturday was another one to add.
Sixteen goals scored and none against - was a great result for the club.
Rangers first grade, for the first time this year, had a full squad to choose from. This gave coach Dean Riordan a healthy headache.
Matt Johnstone, Andrew Potter, Steve Morn and captain Paul Clarke all returned from injury after having a week off due to a washout week at Taree.
The washed out game against Great Lakes will be played on August 7 at Foster
With major games ahead it was all good news for the club to have everyone back on deck with at least two players from first grade having to be brought back to reserve grade.
Port FC hold all the cards leading the competition with a game in hand.
Riordan made the hard decision to drop Jarrod Smith and Ben Mitchell to reserve grade.
Both have been in good form and will be looking to get straight back to the top grade in the coming weeks.
That meant Johnstone and Potter got a starting spot.
Johnstone started in his sweeper position with Potter moving up front to partner Jeremy Masters.
First grade got off to a great start with Clarke running near half the field and sneaking in a shot into the near post within five minutes.
The second came 10 minutes later with some fine team work ending in Sam Potter getting his first for the day.
Masters added two more before the half time break to make it 4-0.
Coach Riordan was more then happy with his team’s effort after a week’s rest, but did say not to get too casual and take it to easy.
The club’s annual Paul Thurlow run will need a new president after its founder Paul Thurlow scored his first goal in five years.
Another one to get off that run was big Ash Dean who scored with a header from a metre out.
Jeremy Masters finished the scoring with two more to make up his hat-trick.
The end score was 8-0.
The Great Northern Hotel player’s player went to Josh Tynan, who did not score but never stopped running. His all round effort was brilliant.
Two points went to Masters and one to Steve Morn.
Rangers reserve grade went on their merry way with a smashing 8-0 win.
Goal scorers were Adam Worthy (2), Michael Kemp (1), Mitchell Fuller (1) and Jarrod Smith scoring a hat-trick. Another to get off the Thurlow run was Jamie Pyne.
This win takes reserve grade clear at the top of the ladder
The Great Northern Hotel player’s player went to Jamie Pyne with two points going to Jarrod Smith and one point to Adam Worthy.
Next week’s game is one not to be missed with Rangers at home to first placed Port FC.
This game could be a preview to the grand final and it is a must win game for Rangers if they are even thinking of taking their sixth straight minor premiership.
