THE hills behind Kempsey will reverberate to the sound of race engines this weekend when more than 40 of the State’s top Off Road competitors tackle a testing course in the fifth annual Wittitrin 200 Off Road Race.
Heavy rain in mid-June forced the Kempsey Macleay Off Road Club to postpone the event to this weekend but the delay has given the club, and competitors, extra time to prepare for what is tipped to be one of the most spectacular races on the NSW Championship trail this year.
The recent wet weather means dust will be of little concern to competitors, who will face all types of terrain, from tricky hill sections, to fast paddock runs, and boggy crossings.
Spectators will be able to view all of the fast and furious action up close in the main arena and with free admission both days the event is expected to embody a real family atmosphere.
Full catering and amenities are available at the track.
Kempsey racers who have entered for this year’s event include David Spokes, Michael Spokes, Darren Perrin, Tim Baker, Katherine Wellings, Chris Browning and Bruce Morgan.
Taree’s Darren Stocks is the defending champion but will face stiff competition to retain his crown in what is arguably the strongest field yet assembled for the Wittitrin 200.
Access to the spectator viewing arena is off Dungay Creek Road, 20 kilometres west of Kempsey. Racing starts 10am Saturday and 9am Sunday.
