THREE Kempsey schoolgirls have been selected in the national indigenous netball team ‘the Budgerigars’.
The trio will travel to New Zealand this week to compete in the Trans-Tasman trophy which will see them up against teams such as Australia, New Zealand Maori, Pacific and Malaysia.
The talented netballers Taylor Kelly-Scholes, Nikaya Sines and Tommaya Kelly-Sines will go into camp on Saturday for three days with the court action to start on Tuesday, May 31.
Two full four-quarter games will be played a day with the Budgerigars facing some tough opposition on the first day, New Zealand and Australia.
Each girl represents a third of the court with Taylor a quick centre court player, while Nikaya is a strong defence player in the goal circle. Tommaya’s height compliments her shooting ability.
Tommaya has already represented the national side twice, travelling to New Zealand in 2009 and Adelaide last year. She will also compete in the Australian Catholic Schools Championships in Melbourne during September, representing the NSW CCC side.
Taylor, 15 and Nikayla, 16, have been playing netball since they were five years old.
Tommaya, 16, was a relative latecomer to the game and only started netball six years ago.
The Trans-Tasman trophy will be contested in Wellington over three days.
