THE wild weather played havoc at the 2009-10 Mid North Coast Branch Championships on the weekend.
Hat Head Surf Life Saving Club hosted the major event, but the elements limited the action on the beach and in the water.
The senior events – opens and masters – went ahead on Saturday, despite the deteriorating weather conditions.
Port Macquarie was crowned the Mid North Coast champions after a commanding show in the beach and water events.
Tacking Point (169) pipped Wauchope-Bonny Hills (168) by only one point to take out second place.
Hat Head was the best placed local surf life saving club, and they finished in fourth place with 138 points, just ahead of South West Rocks who had 130 points.
Hat Head Surf Life Saving Club president Sue Croad said the club was very proud of the 15 senior members who participated in the event.
The Macleay Argus talked to MNC Branch Director of Surf Sports Bob Smith about the event.
“After a number of events in horrendous seas we terminated the water events,” he said.
“We were able to do all the beach events, but the junior carnival was cancelled on Sunday because of the conditions.”
The junior MNC championships have been postponed until Sunday, February 28 at Hat Head.
A decision will be made about the senior events that were not staged at the branch meeting this Thursday.
- The final point score is as follows: Port Macquarie 396; Tacking Point 169; Wauchope-Bonny Hills 168; Hat Head 138; South West Rocks 130; Macksville-Scotts Head 29; Kempsey-Crescent Head 5; Camden Haven 0.
