This regatta saw some of the gun teams from all over the State converge on Darling Harbour.

In front of a crowd of approx 5000 people the club knew that it had to pull out its performance machine.

The River Rats entered Grand Master’s Mixed (50+), Master’s Women (40+) and Masters’s Mixed (40+) divisions.

Most clubs in the mixed divisions were at full strength with 10 men and 10 women.

The Rats unfortunately had only six men but still managed to post some great results with first in the regional final from a field of 13 teams and fourth in grand masters from a field of 18 teams.

The master women’s race was the signature event for the club being undefeated to date. With 21 teams contesting the division, the women lived up to expectations winning their first heat and placed second in their second heat, which qualified them for the final.

In the six-team final, it was a three boat boat race with only 0.6 seconds separating the first three place getters.

The naked eye would declare a dead-heat but the clock said otherwise giving the Rats third place.

Congratualtions to all paddlers and supporters on a great weekend both on and off the water.

The club still needs mixed divisons and is crying out for more men to join up.
