Triathletes jostling on the start line

THE 21st annual Trial Bay Triathlon will be staged on Sunday, February 21.

Close to a thousand competitors lined up for last year’s event and a similarly large number of entrants is expected at this year’s race.

The event consists of a 500m swim, 26km cycle ride and 6km run. The action will start at 7.30am at Trial Bay Gaol.

Early entries closed last Friday, however late entries will be taken until 5pm on Saturday, February 20. No entries will be accepted on the day of the event, and payment must accompany completed entry forms.

The 19th annual junior triathlon will take place on Saturday, February 20. The first of the five races will start at 12.30pm.

The closing date for early entries for this event is 5pm on Wednesday, Feb-ruary 17, with late entries accepted up to one hour before the race start time, but a $7 late entry fee will apply.

Last year, the first man home was Aaron Woolley in 1:04:00, followed by Rhett Pattison in 1:05:04 and Brett Lee in 1:05:17. Melissa Bullock from Emerald Beach won the ladies section in a time of 1:15:15, while Jodi Heeney from Kootingal come in second in 1:15:32 , and Catherine Murray from Gunnedah was third in a time of 1:15:59.
