Dorothy Britten has been a member of the group for three decades and said members had voted to change the name at the most recent meeting, with the aim of drawing more interest in membership.
“When I joined about 30 years ago we had about 50 members, now we have about 15,” she said.
“Stamp collecting is the most popular hobby in the world. It appeals to people young and old from children to grey haired adults.”
The group started in 1947 but went into recess for years before it started again in the mid 1970s.
The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Kempsey-Macleay RSL Club at 4pm. Meetings are informal and new members are welcome.
“We desperately need a few more members,” Mrs Britten said.
“Stamp collecting is something you can learn from - history, geography, politics and all sorts of things.”
The club is holding a stamp and coin market day from 10am to 2pm tomorrow at the RSL Club.
On offer will be quality stamps and coins, as well as accessories, albums and stock books. Dealers will be there from Newcastle, Coffs Harbour and South West Rocks.
It will be a great opportunity for people to learn more about the club. If you cannot make the market day and are interested in becoming a member you are welcome to attend a meeting or phone Mrs Britten on 6562 5491.
