They are all local and in normal reach of racehorses from the Mid North Coast Racing Association.
On occasions, trainers and owners find it hard to find suitable races close to home, with race meetings spread thinly, but no such problem between April 19 and 29.
In fact, some club officials are up in arms about the proliferation of race meetings as they fear there won’t be sufficient horses to go around for capacity fields.
This leads to a drop in TAB betting and subsequently puts their meetings likely to have a loss as turnover is the key to paying for prizemoney, other costs and maintenance of infrastructure.
Admittedly, the distance between Easter and Anzac Day is less this year and the school holidays intervene.
The 10 meetings started with a six-race TAB meeting at Coffs Harbour on Saturday.
Others up to and including the Krambach Race Club TAB meeting at Bushland Drive Racecourse, Taree, on Tuesday, April 29,are Wauchope (non-TAB), Port Macquarie (TAB), Grafton (TAB), Armidale (TAB), Kempsey (non-TAB Anzac Day), Bowraville (non-TAB), Tamworth and Coffs Harbour (both TAB).
All up there are 62 races, unless races are divided due to overwhelming acceptances.
The good news is that industry participants will compete for just over $800,000 prizemoney on offer and may find a suitable race to get some much needed funds.
A sticking point with some trainers and owners is that this type of glut of meetings is met at times by a lack of meetings locally and also races not suitable for their charges whether it be by class or distance.
A look at the proposed dates for next year gives a better spread of meetings with there being 10 in 24 days.
Taree, Wauchope, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Bowraville have meetings from April 4 to April 18 whereas in the week starting April 21 there are meetings at Port, Grafton, Kempsey and Taree.
