A huge family day is planned with free jumping castle for the kids, free shuttle bus service from the town CBD to the racetrack and a five-race non-TAB meeting.
The feature race will be the Kempsey-Macleay RSL Diggers Cup over 1900m.
Butane, last year’s winner, has good odds for back-to-back Cup wins in the four-horse field.
Trained by Kempsey’s Barry Ratcliff, Butane will be a clear favourite leading up to the $6000 Diggers Cup over 1900m today.
The five-year-old bay gelding has been in good form of late with a second, third and first in its last three starts.
Another local contender will be Our Clementine, trained by Kempsey’s Marnie Nitchke.
The five-year-old bay mare has had mixed form with a back of the pack finish at Armidale on April 7.
On March 10 she raced in Cessnock and placed second.
Amber Alert and Redzinga make up the rest of the field.
Lucy Barber will perform the national anthem before the race, which is set for 2.55pm.
Kempsey Rugby Union Club will run two-up in the undercover area, down from the bookmakers between 1.30pm and 3pm.
There will be full bar and canteen facilities available. Gates open at noon and entry is free for any Kempsey-Macleay RSL Club members. Entry is $7. Race books will be available for $5 at the gate.
The first race will start at 1.43pm.

Saturday, May 10, Saturday, August 9 (Steve Keir Memorial Euroka Cup); Friday, November 7, (Kempsey Cup).
