For Sean Brindley, the new youth minister at the South West Rocks Anglican Church, his new patch could not be more different to his previous ministry, not that he is complaining.

“I come from Blacktown in Sydney’s western suburbs,” Mr Brindley said.
“It is certainly a big change to come to somewhere like SWR, that’s for sure.
“When I first came up to interview for the position they drove me around the town showing me the sights and that was it, I was hooked.”
Mr Brindley has a background in social work and theology.
He has been employed part-time by the Anglican Church to give younger citizens of SWR a more immediate connection to the church.
“One of my first tasks will be to establish a youth group for young people from year 6 to 12 or so in that age range," he said.
“It won’t be at the church, I am still finalising where it will be but I want it to be a safe, fun place where young people can come and hang out, play some silly games and just be kids.
“One of the things I do know about SWR is that there are a lot of young people around with nothing to do and I would like them to come along and join in.”
Mr Brindley and his wife are planning to make SWR their home for the foreseeable future.
“We plan to be here for at least 10 years,” he said.
“The job is initially for three years but I am pretty sure we are going to be here for a while yet.”
While Mr Brindley is a young man he said age was no barrier to being a youth minister.
“You just have to stay relevant and talk to people on their level, it doesn’t matter how old you are in years, it is your attitude that is important,” he said.
He was looking forward to the challenge in front of him.
“I want to give young people hope in Jesus Christ and practical solutions to their problems,” Mr Brindley said.
