Three out of the four teams scored wins on Sunday while the women’s league tag team achieved a draw against the Port City Breakers-Panthers.
Mustangs’ first grade side taught Port City a lesson in rugby league winning to the tune of 54-6.
The reserve grade encounter was a little closer with Mustangs taking the three competition points after winning 22-12.
The under 18s will be brimming with confidence after they won 32-8. It was good to see the young side score a strong win after being on the losing end of a number of close games.
The big news of the day came from the first game of the day – the women’s league tag team who drew 18-18 with Port City.
The team are yet to score their maiden win, but they are improving each week and are aiming to notch up their first victory before the end of the season.
There are three rounds to be played before the semi-finals.
On paper Mustangs have won 10 and lost only one game this season, however, they sit in second place with 28 points. Wauchope lead the comp with 30 points after nine wins, one loss and one draw.
Mustangs lost competition points earlier this month due to issues with coaching accreditation.
Pirates and Tigers shared 23 points with Sharks next with 22 points.
Mustangs reserve grade have had a fantastic season and that is reflected on the ladder. With nine wins and only two losses under their belts reserve grade sit at the top of the table with 29 points. Their biggest rivals are the Wingham Tigers who are close behind with 28 points.
The middle of the ladder is congested with three teams sharing 21 points, Sharks, Panthers-Breakers and Pirates.
The young Mustangs have tasted victory on four occasions this season and will be hoping to continue their winning ways in the bottom end of the season. Competition points are essential to ensure they make the cut for semi-finals. They currently seat in equal sixth position alongside Port City with 18 points.
Port Sharks have a commanding lead on the grade with 33 points. The next best is the Wauchope Blues with 25 points.
The Forster-Tuncurry Hawks lead the women’s competition with 29 points, in what is a very close contest. Wauchope Blues are close behind with 28 points while the Old Bar Beach Pirates are in third place with 27 points.
Mustangs will be at home this weekend, Verge St Oval, and they will tackle Wingham Tigers.
The following weekend they will travel south and take on the Wauchope Blues in what will be the match of the round.
The final fixture of the season will see the Mustangs take on the Taree City Bulls at home.
