The ‘Work for the Dole’ group has been operating under the direction of Martin Harrison of training and employment service Novaskill.
It has completed a new retaining wall, garden bed and steps, improving access for campers to freshwater taps and beautifying the area.
The program participants are working toward their certificate II qualification in construction and additional qualifications in horticulture.
The retaining wall and garden bed were constructed of found materials that were lying around the showground.
Landcare donated plants for the project sourced from local nurseries.
“It is an excellent result for the showground, it cleaned up the rubbish lying around and it has added to the amenity of the camping area,” showground manager Steve Rowe said.
Novaskill program manager Petah Russell said the group should be proud of its efforts.
“There is a lot of talk about Work for the Dole schemes lately,” she said.
“These guys weren’t just ‘ticking boxes’, they turned up keen for work every day and really put in a good effort.”
