The main construction works began in April 2014, with the new buildings set to be completed in late 2015.
The refurbishment of the hospital is scheduled to be completed in mid-2016.
The Kempsey Hospital redevelopment is jointly funded under the Health and Hospitals Fund with the NSW government contributing $41 million and the Australian Government contributing $40 million.
The ground floor slab is the first to be poured, with subsequent pours for the three-level building taking place over the coming months.
The redeveloped Kempsey District Hospital will offer expanded and improved services including new operating theatres, renal dialysis capacity, high dependency and coronary care units among other services.
