RSL Sub-branch treasurer John Supple presented the life member with the Certificate of Merit at a special luncheon on Wednesday.
It is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a non-member of the Returned and Services League of Australia.
Mrs Tarr has been an RSL Women’s Auxiliary member since 1962, and becomes the Kempsey-Macleay’s second awardee, after Noeline Thompson.
“It’s certainly an honour to receive this,” Mrs Tarr told The Argus.
“I feel it’s an award to our auxiliary here - I’m only a part of that, and couldn’t have got it without everyone’s help.”
The Kempsey-Macleay Auxiliary was formed in April, 1954.
It has played an important role in supporting the RSL Sub-branch, raising funds – mainly through catering and raffles.
Mrs Tarr had been a member before meeting her husband-to-be, who himself was a returned serviceman.
