Jarno ran 100 metres in 12.87 seconds to win the bronze and has now qualified to represent NSW at the National Athletics Carnival held in Tasmania in November.
Jarno told The Macleay Argus he just loves to run.
“I enjoy running fast and how it’s an individual sport. I hope to one day compete in the Olympics,” Jarno said.
Proud mother, Lanie Dolazao, said its only been a year since he started running.
“He didn’t make it last year at the State Athletics Carnival which only made him more determined to get to the final this year,” Ms Dolazo said.
“He did a lot of training mostly in the morning on his push-bike to get stronger in the legs.”
Jarno represented the North Coast and is the only primary school student in NSW to qualify for the National Athletics Carnival.
“I hope to get a place at the Nationals and get down to at least 12 seconds for the 100 metres,” he said.
If you would like to help Jarno get to the National Athletics Carnival in Tasmania, the Frederickson Public School Representative Council are planning to fund raise to assist him in covering costs for the trip. Contact Frederickson Public School for details.
