Race club secretary Alan Burgess said yesterday the race had a firm place in the hearts of the Kempsey community.
“I think people look forward to the cup as a social occasion, a chance to dress up and a chance to get together,” he said.
“They really get behind it.
"We are still toting things up but we estimate the crowd was about the 2500 mark; that is much the same as last year.
“It is good to see consistent crowd numbers for the event rather than going up and down.
“Being a nice warm day our bar takings were quite healthy as well.
"But the good thing is the crowd were well behaved and the Police approached me at the end of the day to say they were pretty happy with the crowd.
“There are a couple of points they raised they want tightened up but nothing major.”
Mr Burgess said club would be holding a debrief at their board meeting scheduled for last night to discuss ways to improve the meeting.
“There are always things we can do better and change to improve the meeting,” Mr Burgess said.
“We will sit down at the board meeting and go through how we performed and work out what we need to do differently.
“But as I said the Kempsey Cup definitely has a place in the hearts of the Kempsey community.
"It is one of the events in the town that people look forward to whether it is for the chance for the ladies to dress up or get together with your friends.”
