Two elderly people - aged 75 and 84 - were in their Carbin Street home about 8.20am when they were allegedly confronted by a 14-year-old boy armed with a meat cleaver and a tyre lever.
It’s alleged he demanded money from the couple before fleeing the premises empty handed.
The man and woman were not hurt.
Officers attended a home in Bowraville later in the day and they arrested a 14-year-old.
He was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent, and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The young person has been refused bail and will appear in Kempsey Children’s Court on Tuesday, November 25.
