Tenders are now being called for by Kempsey Shire Council for the construction of the new streetscape between Belgrave St and Forth St.
The development will involve the demolition and upgrading of the existing streetscape with new paving, landscaping and street furniture as well as pergola structures to provide shade for seating areas and a defined central road crossing for pedestrians.
Kempsey Shire Council Infrastructure Services director Robert Scott said the tender for the work would close on January 6, 2015.
“This brings the detailed design phase to an end and will allow construction to start in the New Year,” Mr Scott said.
“Some site work may commence in February 2015, however it is likely that the main construction work will not be in progress until March 2015.”
The tender schedule requires the contractor to establish a community liaison plan and appoint a person to be the central contact for the community, property owners and businesses over the duration of the project.
“We have included conditions in the tendering schedule to limit the area being disturbed at any one time and to encourage the completion of works outside business times wherever possible,” Mr Scott said.
“However at this stage we need to allow some flexibility as there are a lot of different ways in which to complete the work and this will be one of the key areas we will be looking to assess in each of the tenders we receive.
“Whilst we won’t have actual details for the proposed construction phase for several months yet, there will be some level of impact on most people during the work.
“We will be working closely with the successful tenderer to manage and mitigate the impacts as much as possible."
