Mr Quinn was present at the meeting last Tuesday night in which the club was voted out of the Group 3 competition for a third time.

It was his initial intervention which led to the latest meeting being held.

On Sunday he was quoted in the Sunday Telegraph newspaper as saying the Country Rugby League “will investigate a possible constitutional change that would give us the power to have a greater say in the management of Group competitions”.

Quinn has also asked the Group’s management if the Mustangs can at least field Under 18s and Women’s Leaguetag sides in next year’s competition.

It is not the first time Mr Quinn has voiced his support for the Mustangs in the Sydney paper, having previously stated that “we can’t have a town like Kempsey without footy” in a November 23 article.

The next step for the Mustangs remains unclear, with the club still reviewing their options in the wake of last week’s decision.

Secretary Bruce Cain told The Argus yesterday said that the Mustangs would continue to work with the Country Rugby League.

“We have approached the CRL to come up here so they can gauge how much the game means to this town,” he said.

“It will be interesting to see what will come from Sunday’s article because it was straight to the point.”
