It is not the first time the 28-year-old has travelled to the Macleay for the event, having made his Crescent Head 7’s debut for Warringah in 2014.
The team made it to the semi finals where they drew with Manly who progressed to the final after scoring first in the match.
Holmes said he is excited to line up for Warringah again this year.
“Playing 7’s rugby is always fun and Crescent Head is a great location,” he said.
“The standard is very good and you really have to push through hard if you want to make it to the business end of the day.”
The scrum half has an impressive record in the Super Rugby competition where he has spent time at Australia’s leading clubs.
Since his debut for Waratahs in 2007, Holmes made more than 50 appearances across four different clubs including 26 for the ACT Brumbies.
Last year he was with the Melbourne Rebels on a short term contract where he acted as an injury replacement for Nic Stirzaker.
Despite his history within Australian rugby’s top tier, Holmes said his focus this year is on helping Warringah win the Schute Shield.
“I’ve played a lot of good rugby in the Super 14 competition so I’m not really perturbed about looking ahead to what might happen there,” he said.
“I’m happy with my current situation. Now that I’m married and I have a good job, I just want to do my best for Warringah and hopefully we can improve on our performance last year.
"My family has a rich history with this club and I began my playing career with them, so it is always good to be able to contribute to the team.”
