The commitment comes from the latest round of the Public Reserves Management Fund Program for upgrades to caravan parks, local parks, reserves, state parks and showgrounds across the state.
Kempsey Showground manager Steve Rowe said the funding round was very competitive and the showgrounds were extremely lucky to get the amount of funding that they did.
“The money is going to provide for the refurbishment and fit-out of brand new training facilities, a new commercial kitchen and an upgrade of amenities in the dining hall,” Mr Rowe said.
“We currently have a number of courses being facilitated like Responsible Service of Alcohol to building construction tickets and first aid.”
“Once the works have finished, the showgrounds will provide a real multi-purpose venue right through from its current use, which is basically entertainment and leisure, to covering the requirements for training and business seminars.
Member for Oxley Andrew Stoner said showgrounds and community halls are the social and economic focal point of many of our local communities.
“This funding will allow community trust managers to carry out improvements that will bring greater social and economic benefits to their local community,” Mr Stoner said.
A further $169,195 of funding was also allocated to the Crescent Head Reserve for redesign and replacement of the timber footbridge over Killick Creek.
