Netballer, Courtney Kelly-Scholes and Rugby League player, Isaiah Barker, both 15, will take their talents outside of Kempsey in the coming months as they compete at a higher level in their respective sports.
Courtney will fly to Kuala Lumpur in May as part of the Indigenous School Sports Australian Netball team while Isaiah is heading to Queensland where he will attend the prestigious Palm Beach Currumbin High School.
Courtney said she can’t wait to compete against teams from Malaysia and New Zealand as part of the international tournament.
“I’ve only ever been to New Zealand before so it should be a great experience,” she said.
For Isaiah, the adventure has already begun with the former Melville High School student starting at his new school this week.
He said he is looking forward to taking full advantage of the school’s facilities.
“The have a really strong rugby league program up there which is great,” he said.
“Hopefully I’ll be able to improve on my game.”
The pair have received a boost to their sporting ambitions in the form of an artistic donation by local painter Richard Campbell.
One of Campbell’s works will be raffled or auctioned off with funds raised going towards helping Isaiah and Courtney achieve their goals.
