After the success of the Kempsey United u15 knockout team in 2014, six team players were selected to be part of a 50 man squad that travelled down to the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence late last year.
Due to their skill and talent on the field, Willy Lockwood, Allan Lockwood, Isaiah Barker, Willy Baker and Tristan Reilly were selected to be part of a 20 man team who will play tonight as part of the opening pre-game match to the NRL All Stars v Indigenous All Stars game.
The Kempsey boys left for camp last Monday and travelled to the Gold Coast for preparation for the big game.
They will not only be in training in the lead up to tonight’s game, but they will also have a chance to participate and mix with some of the NRLs Indigenous greats in seminars and talks with the likes of Nathan Merrit, Preston Campbell, Ricky Walford and every kids idol, Greg Inglis.
Willy Lockwood’s father, William Lockwood, said the experience the boys will get is one that many country players can only dream about.
“They are more than excited and appreciative the chance they have been given to make a name for themselves in the football world,” he said.
