A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the centre, which opened to the public last week, is a great resource for anyone interested in learning more about the benefits of the upgrade.
“The tender to deliver the 14 kilometre upgrade was awarded to McConnell Dowell/OHL joint venture in April last year and work officially started in November,” the spokesperson said.
“During the last month work has continued on clearing of the project alignment, drainage infrastructure installation and earthwork.
“Information about these activities and more is available at the new community display centre, which is at the project site office on Kundabung Road at Kundabung.
“Access to the centre is on the right hand side after entering Kundabung Road from the Pacific Highway.
“The centre is open weekdays between 9am and 5pm and staff will be available to answer questions on the project and provide an overview of work activities.
“Resources available at the centre include project photographs, details about the project alignment and construction management documents.
“Work on the broader Pacific Highway upgrade is progressing with about 60 per cent of the final 657 kilometres of highway between Hexham and the Queensland border upgraded to four lane divided highway.
“Since 2003 the number of lives lost on the Pacific Highway has decreased by 56 per cent. The completion of the Kundabung to Kempsey upgrade in 2017 weather permitting means further road safety and travel time benefits will be realised.”
