Healthy Communities coordinator Julie Woodrow said there were four $1000 grants available for community groups to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty by cleaning up the Macleay.
“We are inviting people to identify an area they feel they would like to clean up,” Ms Woodrow said. “The nominated area needs to have some significant illegally dumped rubbish like mattresses and TVs and they need to be willing to go in and clean it up.
“To be successful in their application, the group needs to put together a plan to clean up that area or areas, which will also need to include a map and photos.”
Ms Woodrow said the four successful groups could spend the $1000 on anything related to their usual activities.
“It could be a Rotary Club raising money for play equipment or a sporting group that needs more money for sporting activities,” Ms Woodrow said.
“The money doesn’t have to be spent on the clean-up and we’ll also pay for the waste transfer station fees.
“It becomes a real win-win for the group as well as the community.”
For more information and an application form contact Julie Woodrow at council - phone 6566 3200.
Applications close on Monday, May 18, and winners will be notified by Friday, May 22.
