WITH the threat of an East Coast Low forming, the Macleay Valley producers yarded 1,000 weaners, which saw prizes for the best pen of steers and the best pen of heifers with the sponsorship prize provided by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia Kempsey and also Vetmec drench awarded to the two highly commended pens of steers and heifers.

Col and Raymond Clarke of Nulla Creek, Bellbrook took out the prize winning pen of steers. A pen of 20 Angus steers, which saw the calves go onto make 286 cents per kilo with an average weight of 286kg, purchased by Ian Morgan Livestock Tamworth. The highly commended pen of steers were breed by Steven Anderson of Kinchela, a pen of 10 Charolais steers making 252 cents per kilo with an average weight of 295kg, purchased by Mackaway Pastoral Yarrowitch.
Narelle Styles of Eungai sold the top weaner steer for 294 cents per kilo, with the majority of the weaners steers sold making 230 to 270 cents per kilo.
The best pen of heifers was won by Steven Anderson of Kinchela, with a pen of Charolais calves making 218 cents per kilo with an average weight of 268kg, purchased by Ian Morgan Tamworth. The highly commended pen of heifers were breed by Stephen and Tracey Saul of Clybucca, which sold for 220 cents per kilo with an average weight of 266kg.
In dollar terms, Andrew and Melissa Collins from Rollands Plains topped the steer section making $912.00, while Colin and Helen Ibbotson from Austral Eden topped the heifer section returning $791.00.
We saw buyers come from the Southern Tablelands, New England, Yarrowitch, Coonamble, and Tamworth, along with our local producers.
Selling agent, Ian Argue of Kempsey Stock & Land, said that he was very pleased with the overall prices of weaners sold on the day, which is a testament to an excellent season across the Mid North Coast.
