All up, between the outlets, the centre has added 185 new jobs to the Macleay Valley economy, servicing the 13,000 travellers who pass its doors every day.
Customers wasted no time getting to know the new facility with McDonald’s in particular reporting a brisk trade and many motorists also filling up at the new petrol outlet.
McDonald’s Kempsey licensee Adrian Sippel said he was happy how the first few hours of trading at his new store had gone.
“It has been really good so far, the customers are really enjoying the new build your own burger ordering touch screen service and all the feedback we are getting is very positive,” he said.
“We are up and running with 120 staff positions, some of which have required a bit of extra training for some new roles which need some different skills.”
Petrol retailer Puma Energy welcomed the opening of its first NSW retail outlet, and its first newly built service centre in Australia.
The 5ha service centre boasts a 149-space car park, 25 B-double truck bays and six bus or caravan parking spaces, as well as a truck lounge, playground, dog park and indoor and outdoor seating areas.
Puma Energy Australia managing director Ray Taylor said the flagship development was a significant milestone for Puma Energy and for Kempsey, providing convenient fuel access to the 13,000 vehicles that pass through on the Pacific Highway each day.
“The South Kempsey Travel Centre will bring new facilities to one of the state's most travelled areas and will help us to achieve our goal to provide truck-stop and travel coverage on key routes right across the country," Mr Taylor said.
Formed in 1997 in Central America, Puma Energy is a global integrated oil company active in 45 countries.
Puma is based in Singapore, it also has regional hubs in Johannesburg (South Africa), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Brisbane (Australia) and Tallinn (Estonia) managing more than 7,500 employees.
