The Tigers scored in the first five minutes of the match leaving the Saints with an uphill battle to achieve victory.

Coach, Jason Fisher, said it was unfortunate they were unable to reel in the deficit.

“We sort of sat too deep which played into their hands a bit,” he said.

“They dominated the first half and we had control in the second, so we were a bit unlucky not to get more out of the match. We hit the post a couple of times and missed a penalty so it was just on of those days.”

After the Tigers went ahead early, the Saints responded soon after with Troy Ward getting on the end of a well placed corner.

A contentious penalty handed the visitors back the lead before another goal just before the break gave them a 3-1 advantage at half time.

The Saints played with renewed purpose in the second and eventually managed to score the only goal of the half with Lachlan Galea tapping in the rebound from a Jarrod Witheridge shot, which hit the crossbar.

Fisher said his side know where they need to improve going forward.

“I think we were a bit rattled when they scored back to back goals so we need to work on the way we start our games,” he said.

“Evan Clarke and Blake Webster were probably the standouts for us in the game.”
