Prime Minister Tony Abbott has called a media conference for 4.30pm AEST where it is expected he will address the latest issues surrounding Speaker Bronwyn Bishop and possibly announce he has lost confidence in her.
This comes after weeks of standing by the embattled veteran MP, who has been under fire for abusing parliamentary entitlements, including hiring a $5000 helicopter ride for a Liberal fundraiser from Melbourne to Geelong.
Labor has been demanding her dismissal following the string of revelations but the prime minister as late as Friday said he would be standing by the "deeply remorseful" and "very, very chastened" Speaker.
But the government has been rocked by new claims of Mrs Bishop's use of entitlements, including reports she hired a $6000 private plane to travel to the New South Wales South Coast for another party event.
Mrs Bishop's office did not respond to Fairfax Media's multiple phone calls on Sunday, to respond to reports she spent $1000 on private limos on the same day she attended a theatre launch in her home city of Sydney.
