In a game that was no competition for the South West Rocks side, Marlins’ coach Grant Schubert said he takes his hat off to the Raiders’ for making it through the entire match.
“They only had nine players on the field and I give them all full credit because they played the full game and didn’t come off as they could of like other teams have done throughout the year,” he said.
“Due to the low numbers we cut the halves down to 30 minutes rather than 40 minutes but in the end there wasn’t much competition mainly due to the low numbers.”
Schubert said the day was a bit disappointing as the team had been looking forward to the day for a long time.
“We treated the game as a practise match and to see where we could make future changes or improvements,” he said.
“We had too much speed and we just controlled the footy and had the ball for most of the game.
“When they had the ball they were too tired from defending where we still had plenty of energy and good speed but really we just ran through them.”
The Marlins finished the regular season as minor premiers and will have a bye this weekend. They will play the following week against the winner of the match between the Kendall Blues and the Lower Macleay Magpies in the Hastings League grand final.
