A WOMAN was robbed in a terrifying incident in South Kempsey on Sunday morning after she pulled over to the side of the road to answer a text message from her sister.

The Austral Eden woman was on her way south about 5.15am on Sunday October 4 when she stopped in Lachlan St, South Kempsey opposite Coleman Lane.
The woman switched off the ignition and began to answer the message when her driver’s door was yanked open and she was confronted by an assailant, wearing a hoddie and a ‘skull’ bandana of the type favoured by bikers.
The man did not speak; he leant across the woman and allegedly took her handbag from the passenger’s seat, leaving her frightened and speechless on the side of the road.
Realising he had dropped his torch he calmly returned to the car to fetch it.
“That’s when I started screaming,” the victim said.
“I saw he had dropped the torch on the road but I though he was coming back to get me.
“I’m still a bit croaky this morning from screaming.
“All I can think about is that skull facemask.”
The woman immediately abandoned her plans for the day and drove to the Kempsey Police Station to make a report.
As of yesterday (Monday) the police had not yet arrested anyone in connection with the incident.
