In Kempsey Mental Health Month activities are being coordinated by Sue Read from PHaMS – Personal Helpers and Mentors Service, an organisation which works to break down the barriers to employment for people with mental illness.
Several activities and events are planned for the month, the highlight of which will be the colouring in of two specially created hand drawn panels by members of the public.
“They are quite fantastic,” Mrs Read said.
“Our aim is to have them coloured in by the public at various locations around Kempsey during Mental Health Month.
“The artist who drew them suffers herself from an anxiety disorder.
“When they are coloured in we will get them framed and put them on display.”
During Mental Health Month the Value your Mind campaign is encouraging people to create a ‘toolbox of wellness’.
“The idea is to have a resource of things to turn to when you are feeling depressed or alone,” Mrs Read said.
“It could be going for a walk, listening to your favourite music something like that.”
