Macleay Valley Campdraft Association secretary Janelle Wooldridge said the once a year event allows the association to raise money for various charities within the community.
“This year we have donated $5000.00 to the Westpac Helicopter and another $5000.00 to Careflight,” Wooldridge said.
“The Campdraft this year was very tough with quality riders mounted on very well trained horses.
“In this game it seems to be the tougher the competition the more the competitor likes it and this was evident as the atmosphere built up throughout the day to the draft finals.”
Wooldridge said riders came from all along the North Coast to compete at the Campdraft but in the end it was a Macleay Valley local that took out the honours.
“In first place was Macleay Valley resident Clint Shields riding Fuse scoring 85 to take home $220.00 from the L J Hooker SWR and Michael Ettelson Property Sales Encouragement Draft,” she said.
“The Eagle Insurance and Kempsey Produce and Saddlery sponsored Junior draft was won by Dylan O’hara from Wingham, riding Bonnie with a score of 77 and the Dee Amber Rural Supplies sponsored Juvenile draft was won by local rider, Hugh McGoldrick riding Suzy Wong with a score of 90.
“Maryann Thompson from Glen Elgan riding Ted with a score of 84 was the winner of the Kempsey Stock and Land sponsor ed Ladies draft and the highly contested Mavin Hino Truck Centre Maiden draft was won by Madalyn Watchirs from Gloucester, riding Watchirs Mia with a winning score of 171.”
