The Marlins not only lost the game they could be without captain-coach Les Lockwood for an extended period after he injured his knee in tackle, medical checks this week will determine how long he sits on the sideline.
The Marlins sit fifth on the Hastings League ladder with two wins, a draw and loss from the first five rounds. In the other Macleay Hastings League encounter played in the Macleay on the weekend the Lower Macleay Magpies unbeaten run continued when they notched up their fifth win of the year a convincing 58-18 win over the hard-trying Harrington Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes put in a creditable performance, coming back from last weeks short-handed 90-26 thumping at the hands of the SWR Marlins. The ladder leading Magpies have won five from five and sit one game clear of Comboyne.
Their early season form has given them a great platform for a top four finish and a finals appearance again this year.
