Formerly run by the Gladstone and Lower Macleay Jockey Club at the now defunct Gladstone Racecourse, the 1900m race for the famous trophy was race four on the six event TAB meeting. Shadow Rain (Terry Walshe/ Chloe Baker) and Butane (Barry Ratcliff/ Mollie Partridge) completed the place getters.
Race one of the day was the Macleay Argus Maiden Plate over 1000m. Apprentice Jackson Murphy made full use of his claim to ride the Barry Ratcliff Trained Beside You to a 2/12 length win over Sehaab (Neil Godbolt/ Robert Agnew) and Queen Majesty (George Woodward/ Matthew Bennett).
Murphy made it a double on the day riding home the winner in the last race as well. Matthew Bennett also had a good day out with back-to-back wins aboard Foreign Secretary in the second and Deckfast in the third race of the day.
