Saturday’s race meeting was the culmination of four weeks racing leading to the running of the main event which carried first prizemoney of $2500.
Cobber in Motion, who is owned by local identities Daniel Abela, Matt Beazley, and Ian Hudson, beat home Cory Jay trained by Mark Hine and Silky Jill prepared by Mervyn Turner.
For the well travelled Goodwin it was a great day out, also training the winners of race four, race 10 and race 11 in addition to the Cup race.
He said that Cobber in Motion has been a joy to work with.
“He’s a city class dog that’s for sure who has won for us in Sydney, Gosford, Maitland to name a few,” Mr Goodwin said.
“He’s been injury free and he’s just the perfect dog to train, he has been wonderful for us.. He had been preparing really well and I am not surprised he broke the track record (29.34) for the 508m journey.”
Next up for Cobber in Motion is a trip to Gunnedah with kennel mate Blue Squirrel (owned by Josh Ball) and if all goes to plan, a trip to Queensland and the Northern Territory for a couple of big races.
“We are looking at the Cairns Cup in late June and maybe the Darwin Cup as well, I used to race in North Queensland so I know the tracks and the conditions,” Goodwin said.
“For such a long journey the dogs will go by road to Brisbane and then by air to Cairns or Darwin if we end up going.”
“It was great to see him win on the weekend, particularly for part owner Ian Hudson who I have had an association with for more than 20 years.”
