Severe wind and large swells has caused a section of the Killick Creek footbridge at Crescent Head to break away.
About a quarter of the bridge has been snapped off and is sitting about 30 metres away on the beach.
Kempsey Shire Council have closed the bridge and have taped up the entrance to prevent people from entering.
A more substantial barricade is expected to be in place today with council to further assess the damage.
Due to the high tide and big swells, water is also flowing into Willow St causing minor flooding. Several residents have been cut off by the floodwaters.
Large trees and debris have also fallen across parts of Crescent Head and the Macleay.
The council’s manager of engineering works, Tony Green, said while most are being attended to there are a number of trees across Armidale Road west of Link Road through to Corangula Road that will take time to remove.
Conditions are currently too dangerous to attempt to remove all of them.
Motorists are warned that the roads may be partially or totally blocked and should avoid travel if possible.
Conditions west of Corangula Road are unknown at this time.
Residents and motorists are invited to report any trees blocking roads to the council’s after hours service on 6566 3200.
