The Taree-Wingham owners of three-year-old gelding Epic Dan were like a rugby football side when cheering home their galloper’s win at Kempsey…and they were at it again at Taree last Friday.

You can’t not recognise the 15 owners as they descend in a group and sport green shirts with the name of their horse blazoned on the back.
They bring their children, they are family members and friends, they cheer loudly. By forming the syndicate with other racehorse lovers, they are having a ball.
The pose for a photo after the latest win looked like a congregation as they surrounded Epic Dan in the enclosure…but the picture will be something they will cherish.
It shows that by pitching a small amount of money into forming a syndicate with friends and family to race a horse, it can be rewarding and not costly.
Their foray into horse ownership started with the purchase of two mares with foals. The first to race was Get On The Grange, now a six-year-old, owned by Martin Bates, Brian Kelly and his daughter, Fiona Titus.
The fun the three were having rubbed off on relatives and friends and another syndicate with the three in was formed to race a full-brother to Get On The Grange, it being named Epic Dan.
Get On The Grange has had 43 starts for nine wins, two of them being at Warwick Farm and Doomben before a fourth at Canterbury on Saturday in the last month, along with 12 placings for prizemoney of nearly $200,000. Epic Dan,also trained at Wyong by Allan Kehoe, has had seven starts for two wins and prizemoney of just over $26,000.
And Brian Kelly tells me that there are two more progeny getting ready to race at home. And may the wins and fun continue!
