On July 4, students from the local dance school and their families flew to California in the USA to participate in the annual extravaganza ‘Dance the Magic’.
‘Dance the Magic’ is a non-competitive event that brings dancers together from around the world for an experience that is full of emotion, excitement, pageantry and pride. Dancers get to perform on a Disney stage and participate in workshops with Disney dancers and choreographers.
Dance school owner Danae Cantwell said that as well as dancing in the parade, which was the headline event, the students also participated in two days of workshops at backstage Disney with entertainment industry greats and Disney superstars.
“The students were praised by directors for their technical and performance abilities, and I was extremely proud of their work ethic and showmanship whilst we were over there,” Ms Cantwell said.
“The children took the adventure in with wide eyes and were sponges, learning and growing from the experience.”
To be able to attend the dance spectacular, Ms Cantwell had to apply and compete with other dance schools from around the world.
“I sent a video of some of my students dancing, and they were accepted based on that,” Ms Cantwell said. “I then opened the opportunity to all my students from the age of eight and over.”
The dance troupe spent a total of four days at Disneyland, and Ms Cantwell hopes to do it all over again in 2019.
‘Dance the Magic’ aims to provide dancers with a professional venue to showcase their talent, to perform before thousands of guests and to create memories that last a lifetime.
